Whether it's structural damage, disease, or a safety risk to your property or the people on it, sometimes tree removal is the right call — and when it is, how it's done matters.

Eugene & Springfield Tree & Stump Removal & Grinding Services

It requires a trained eye, the right equipment, and a methodical approach. We work from the bottom up — removing limbs carefully before sectioning the trunk down to the stump. Throughout the process, a chipper handles the brush, and larger limbs are cut into firewood. What comes down doesn't go to waste. Mulch and firewood are yours to keep, or we haul everything away. Your call.

One thing worth knowing: tree roots don't always stay where you expect them. Removal near structures, driveways, or underground lines requires careful planning to avoid damage that outlasts the job. Our team assesses the full picture before the first cut — so the tree comes down cleanly, and everything around it stays exactly where it should.

Tree removal isn't a job for guesswork.

Left in the ground, tree stumps cause ongoing damage — spreading disease to nearby trees, pushing roots into foundations, and attracting unwanted pests near your home. Removal is the final step in doing the job right.

The tree is gone. The problem isn't.

It's easy to look at a tree stump and think I'll get to that eventually. But stumps are deceptive. What's visible above ground is a fraction of what's happening below it — and removal done incorrectly leaves behind enough root mass to keep causing problems long after the surface looks clean.

Rental grinders are also significantly underpowered compared to professional equipment. They'll wear you out before they finish the job.

The longer a stump sits, the worse it gets. Getting it done right the first time is almost always the safest and most effective choice.

Don’t leave that stump for your next weekend project.

With this budget-friendly, straightforward option, we’ll grind the stump down efficiently and completely. No hauling, filling, or site cleanup included. Grindings and debris stay on site, and the hole remains as-is. It's a practical choice for out-of-the-way areas where a quick, clean result matters more than a polished finish.

grind only

With this option, stump grindings are packed back into the hole left behind. The area will be slightly uneven at first — that's normal. Over time, the ground settles and levels out on its own. Just keep in mind that new grass won't fill in quickly, so this option is best suited for areas where appearance isn't a priority.

Partial Clean-up

Looking for the job to get done right and look good? Full clean-up is meant for you. Stump grindings can be hauled away entirely or repurposed as mulch for your yard — whichever works best for you. We level the ground and leave the space ready for whatever comes next. By the time we're done, there's no trace it was ever there.

For grass, you can typically overseed within a few weeks once the grindings are cleared and the area is filled and leveled. For a new tree, we'd recommend waiting longer and ensuring the old root system has had adequate time to break down — planting too soon can interfere with new root development. We're happy to give you a specific recommendation based on your situation

How soon can I plant grass or a new tree where the stump was?

Not necessarily. As long as we have clear access to the stump and any gate codes or entry instructions ahead of time, we can complete the job without you present. That said, we're always happy to walk through the work with you before we start if you'd like to be there.

Do I need to be home during the service?

Yes — with the right equipment and approach. Tight spaces require more precision and sometimes a different grinder configuration, but working near structures is something we do regularly. We assess clearance and access before the job starts so there are no surprises.

Can you grind stumps close to fences, driveways, or structures?

Grinding removes the stump and the majority of the surface root system, but deeper roots are left in the ground to decompose naturally over time. In most cases this is completely fine — the roots are no longer living and will break down on their own. If root removal is a specific concern for your property, let us know and we'll talk through your options.

What happens to the roots after grinding?

There will be some disturbance to the immediate area around the stump — that's unavoidable. However, we take care to minimize impact to surrounding grass, plants, and landscaping. The area directly around the grind site will need some attention afterward, but we won't leave your yard looking like a construction zone.

Will stump grinding damage my lawn or surrounding plants?

Typically 6 to 12 inches below ground level — deep enough to eliminate the visible stump and the majority of the surface root system. If you're planning to replant or lay new sod in the area, let us know and we'll make sure we go deep enough to give whatever comes next a clean start.

How deep do you grind?

Most single stumps take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours, depending on size, age, and root density. Older stumps that have begun to decay are generally faster. Large, healthy root systems take longer. We'll give you a realistic timeframe before we begin.

How long does stump grinding take?

Safety is the first consideration on every job, not an afterthought. Our team is trained in safe removal practices for both tree and stump work — including proper equipment operation, debris management, and working near structures. We don't cut corners on process because the consequences aren't worth it.

What about general safety during tree and stump removal?

Yes — when done correctly. Our equipment is operated by trained professionals who assess the area before any grinding begins. We account for proximity to structures, underground utilities, and surrounding landscaping. If there's anything that warrants extra care or a modified approach, we'll flag it before we start.

Is stump grinding safe for my home?

We use commercial-grade stump grinders to grind the stump down in passes, working through the wood until we reach several inches below ground level. The machine chips the stump into small pieces as it works — those grindings are what's left behind, and depending on the service option you choose, they're either repurposed, packed back in, or hauled away entirely.
